Healthy Built Environment
Healthy Built Environments (HBE) are planned and built communities with services and resources which health evidence demonstrates has a positive impact on people’s physical, mental and social health. (Interior Health, 2016)
Active Transportation refers to any form of human-powered transportation – walking, cycling, using a wheelchair, in-line skating or skateboarding. (PHAC, 2014)
Transportation networks that offer multi-modal options (walking, cycling, public transit as well as vehicle travel) that are convenient, affordable and safe can improve population health and health equity. This is done by improving access to employment and education opportunities, healthy food, recreation and social opportunities, healthcare services as well as other services.
